You can hire me to work for you
Here's a tasting menu of my consulting and contracting offerings.
I’ve been making use of the available time I have to make connections. I’ve met with people who know me, my talents/skills and the quality of my work, and also with people who knew of me, but had never met me in person. At every encounter, I’ve asked a version of these questions: What do you think are my strengths? If I were a consultant or contractor, what type of work would you hire me to do?
I’m here to officially announce that I am open for business as a consultant and contractor, and I there’s a whole lot I can offer.
The lessons I’ve learned in my 25 years as a journalist are too many and too broad for a résumé. Even calling myself a journalist seems reductive. I’m a communicator. I’m a leader. I’m a translator — of languages, missions and messages. I’m curious and ingenious, unafraid to question and push limits if that’s what it takes to spur change and generate results. I possess the intellectual ability to listen, observe, interrogate, dissect and explain. I’m a strategist, skilled at identifying and evaluating needs and coming up with creative, productive and-or cost-effective ways to fulfill them (or let them go). I’m a master at simplifying complicated concepts, sussing out the elements that are purposeful and crafting digestible ways to present them to audiences — in digital, audio or video; as a report, opinion piece, presentation or remarks.
I lead with heart and mind, compassion and decisiveness, and I can help you do that, too.
I’ve worked in small, mid-sized and large newsrooms that were part of family-owned, publicly traded and nonprofit organizations, which means I know well about the dynamics that define them and what sets them apart. I’ve covered a variety of topics, which means I have a good understanding about a lot of things and have a whole lot of contacts and connections. I am 100% immigrant and 100% American — and if you’re wondering how that’s possible, I’m happy to explain.
Interested? Pick a time on my Calendly to talk to me, even if informally.
I’ve taught journalism students and coached mid-career journalists for six years, tasks that have given me great insight on how to manage diverse groups of people, optimize their skills while keeping in mind the resources available to them and creating teams that gel. I believe in pursuing talent that strengthens organizations, and not just people to fill open positions.
I’m a mother and widow and as such, the CEO of mine and my child’s life. Ours is a company that operates in the black, relying on our resourcefulness and adaptability to always find new ways to keep moving up and ahead.
I can help you (or your clients) in all the areas described above and more, including:
helping you craft and sell stories;
identifying vulnerabilities within and among teams and creating strategies to address them;
advising on the makeup of your organization and how to foster inclusiveness;
establishing collaborative ideas-generating spaces.
Find a time on my Calendly and let’s connect! If you’re in or near New York City, feel free to reply to this message and we can make plans to meet in person.
With love and loads, loads of purpose, always.
Fernanda.
